Pinchbeck Gold Six Seal Spinning Fob

£225.00

Highly collectible and almost 300 years old, this turning spinning wheel desk seal has been made with a Pinchbeck gold wheel and collar, and showcases a lovely mother of pearl handle. The wheel comprises six individual seals made from different types of precious stone; each one showing a different sentimental image or picture.

Pinchbeck gold was a technology invented in the early 18th century by Christopher Pinchbeck, a London clock and watch-maker who wanted to develop a means of providing a gold-looking object but without the associated cost of the 18 carat gold which was typically used. In his version of Pinchbeck, a combination of copper and zinc was used.

This piece measures 9.8cm length, 4.5cm wheel diameter.

The handle does show signs of repair which we've done our best to picture.
